Bibi Russell showcases her collection first time at ‘Kolkatta Fashion Week’.
This is the first time that I am showing my work in India Fashion Week and I am absolutely thrilled to show in Kolkata Fashion Week. This year has been declared the Year of Natural Fibre, which I am extremely excited about. For the last 15 years, I have been working hard with our weavers and craftspeople to promote our natural fibres. I am doubly honoured, as a Bengali, to participate in the Kolkata Fashion Week, where the focus is on our magical weaves.
I get inspiration for my designs from the people of Bangladesh and the beautiful colours which can be found here, especially in the villages. I also gain a lot of inspiration from going to the villages and seeing the weavers and craftspeople at work.
All my fabrics are hand-woven, and natural. I do not use synthetic materials. The fabrics I use are Khadi, Cotton, Silk, Gamcha, Jute yarn fabric, Tribal fabrics, recycle fabrics and of Read more

Style Showdown: Kelly Brook Vs Amanda Holden

January 14, 2009

Following the announcement yesterday that Kelly Brook is to join the panel of Britain’s Got Talent, we imagine Amanda Holden to not be feeling too happy right now.
Someone who is younger, arguably sexier and fresher than she is has been hired by Cowell to give the third series of the show a boost- similar to the hiring Cheryl Cole to replace Sharon Osbourne, on the X Factor last year, some might say.
We all know how that one worked out, is Cowell hoping for similar success with Kelly? If so, she seems quite an odd choice considering that she hasn’t made a (good) movie in years and is pretty much known now for her love life rather than anything else.
We’ll admit that we were pretty enamoured with her when she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, but since then, all she seems to have done is make-up and break-up with her Hollywood fiance.
Perhaps this is just the break she needs to change people’s perception of her, and to win a place in the nation’s heart. Does she have the ability to become Read more

More than 20 years after taking the modelling world by storm, Canadian Linda Evangelista has signed up to be the new face of Prada.

Still beautiful at the age of 43, Linda, who once declared she “didn’t get out of bed for less than $10,000″, will front the Italian fashion house’s autumn/winter collection.

And the mother-of one is not the only original supermodel still very much in vogue.

Starring in the latest Yves Saint Laurent campaign is British beauty Naomi Campbell, 38, while Christy Turlington, who is one year older, is the most recent face of fashion brand Escada.

Baby of the group is German blonde Claudia Schiffer. At 37, she is modelling for Italian label Salvator Ferragamo.

Britain’s Missing Top Model: Sophie and Jess in Dinner Showdown!

July 26, 2008

Britian’s Missing Top Model contestants Sophie and Jess were seen having a heated showdown in this week’s show- leaving viewers split over who was in the wrong.

The row broke out after Jess sympathised with Kellie saying that in everyday life her mother interprets a lot for her because she can’t follow many conversations due to being deaf in one ear.

Sophie, having criticised Jess’s moaning in the past, interrupted saying: “Jess, you say ‘I can’t’ a lot”

Kelly Knox quickly jumped in on the Jess-bashing: “You can follow a normal conversation. Kellie can’t hear nothing”.

Sophie continues: “If you’re going to compare disabilities, then at the end of the day Kellie’s got a more serious one. It’s like when you compared yourself to me in my chair …”

Then quicker than you could say ‘Can we have the bill please?’ a quiet dinner made way for a heated debate about the nature of disability.

Jessica, clearly shocked by this turn in the conversation, said “I’m just trying to make a connection; to say that I understand what you’re talking about”. She continues: “You’ve never had to prove your disability to anyone …”

Jess’s argument is that because her disability is a lot less obvious than many of the other contestants, it’s been more difficult for her to get help, or even to get recognition that she does actually have an impairment.

Sophie, political as ever, is having none of it, she ranted: “You want it to be a lot harder for you. Your disability is very important to you; it almost defines you … Why do you need the recognition? Why do you need the sympathy?” She sums up her message in unequivocal terms: “Stop feeling so sorry for yourself!”

Following the emotional show the Britain’s Missing Top Model website saw a surge of visitors who all wanted to have tehir say about the dinner showdown.

Over 200 viewers answered a poll on the site within an hour of the show airing. The big question everyone was so eager to talk about was: In the disability showdown at the restaurant, who do you think was in the right? And the results so far are suprisingly split with 54% thinking Jessica was in the rightaand 46% in favour of Sophie.

Let us know what you think below. Or go to www.bbc.co.uk/missingmodel to enter the poll yourself.
