Feni Soccer earns second win
January 3, 2010
Substitute Ashraful Quader Monju’s double strike helped Soccer Club Feni earn their second win in the Citycell Bangladesh League as they recorded a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Muktijoddha Sangsad on Saturday at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium at Kamlapur.
Shahajuddin Tipu struck the lone goal for Muktijoddha Sangsad, who suffered five straight defeats to stay at the bottom of the table while Feni Soccer Club raised their points tally to seven from five matches.
Muktijoddha Sangsad, who had earlier suffered defeats against Brothers, Sheikh Russel, Mohammedan and Abahani, got off to a fine start as expected with striker Tipu putting the All Reds ahead in 12th minute as the former Abahani striker did not hesitate to give his side a lead availing a through pass from captain Firoz Mahmud Titu from the right.
The freedom fighters’ team looked on the right direction to record their first triumph in the Bangladesh League until Manju came on as a substitute in the second half.
Three minutes into the second half, Titu with Feni goalkeeper Golam Mostafa to beat frustrated Muktijoddha to drive outside, but Manju did not disappoint his side as the substitute striker headed a free kick from Mintu Sheikh home to restore parity.
Muktijoddha could have gone ahead again had a shot from Rokonuzzaman Khanchan not come off the sidebar in the 65th minute. Seven minutes later, Manju doubled the lead of Feni Soccer striking his season’s third goal and league’s second goal as the former Brothers Union striker headed a Monayem Khan Raju cross to seal the match.
The margin of Feni even could have been bigger had Lition not squandered a chance in the 75th minute despite getting Muktis goalkeeper Nizam Majumder alone.
